With Google Pixel 2, Google will come back stronger in smartphones
Google is preparing to follow up on the Pixel. In October 2016, the company made a turning point by introducing the first “smartphone designed by Google”. Unlike Nexus, devices created in partnership with manufacturers like HTC, LG, Huawei or Samsung, Google has become more involved in the choice of design and components. Google Pixel 2 should go further, with a modernized design, improved technical features and wider distribution.
The first Pixel, reserved for the United States and the United Kingdom, could still be compared to an experiment by Google, curious to test the desire of its customers to buy material under its brand. The smartphone was the first to embed Google Assistant artificial intelligence, deployed on other terminals. For many specialists, the Google Pixel is what is best on the market. Google manages the art of hardware / software relationship with a dexterity similar to that of Apple, and offers one of the best finished experiences. Despite a camera quality lower than what its competitors can offer, the Pixel was considered as a smartphone making the best shots,
The design of the first Google Pixel was not the most modern. As the new generation of edgeless smartphones begins to appear, Google has chosen to offer devices that could have been announced three years earlier. The borders of the Pixel and its declination XL are similar to those of the iPhone 6 and its thickness of 8.5 mm does not offer him very beautiful curves.
According to resource, whose sources have made a rendering of Pixel 2, Google’s next smartphone should significantly reduce its borders. The company should not propose a design as ambitious as that of Samsung with the Galaxy S8 but should be closer to what LG does with his latest G6. The site indicates however that this new design could be reserved for the XL version of the device, and that the smaller format should retain its current form.
Another evolution of this large model: the arrival of a screen AMOLED of 6 inches to the ratio 18: 9. The slab of the first XL Pixel was 5.5 inches and was a more classic 16: 9 format. Google would therefore follow LG and Samsung, the first manufacturers to offer screens lengthened on the height. These screens would be manufactured by LG and would follow Google’s $ 880 million investment in the Korean screen division. The fingerprint sensor on the camera would remain on the back but would swing from the top glass edge to the bottom aluminum edge.
Google would also add a second loudspeaker grid to the Pixel, allowing it to offer stereo sound like many of its competitors. This second grid would replace the aging port jack that Apple had removed first with the iPhone 7. During the video presentation of the pixel, Google had made the choice to mock Apple by insisting on the presence of a jack port. The decision to remove it after only one generation is surprising but can be justified by Google’s decision to make the smartphone waterproof.
